With kids: Kids can be content just staying by the pools, playing in the property or at the beach but, for a different day, you can play mini-golf, climb trees, swim with dolphins, visit a Zoo, a science museum or an aqua park.
If you would like to have quite a unique experience during your holiday, we suggest you spend a day at Zoomarine. This is an amusement and conservation park that has won many awards for how well they do things. It has shows with dolphins, seals and birds that are fun while focused on conservation messages. There are several aquariums and parks with other wildlife. Most special of all, it has a lagoon where one can swim with dolphins. There is also a large water park, amusements for small children, shops, restaurants, cafes and ice cream stands.
Mini-golf: For an afternoon well spent, you can play mini-golf in Quarteira. It is suitable for all ages (our youngest played there when he was 3 years old). It has two different courses, snack bar, games room and play area.
Parque Aventura: In Albufeira you will find an adventure park where you will walk on ropes from tree to tree. The park offers courses accessible to anyone 4 years of age and older and no physical training is required. They also have a paintball area with natural obstacles.
Lagos Zoo: this is a small zoo where the focus is on species they can give good conditions to. It has a nice collection of birds and primates and it is probably the only place where you can see the endangered Iberian Lynx.
Fiesa Sand Festival: this is a huge sand sculpture exhibition, held annually in the Algarve, presenting forty thousand tons of sand, transformed into towering sculptures, carved according to a unique theme. The exhibition is presented in an area of 15,000 m2, with some sculptures that reach 12m. Combining a visit to Lagos Zoo with the Fiesa Sand Festival makes for a very nice outing.
Children Science Museum: If you need a day away from the sun or on a rainy day there is this museum next to the port in Faro just outside the city walls. It is a science center with exhibitions about the sea and other things where children can do experiments and test things for themselves.
Aqua parks: there are three outdoor water parks in the Algarve which are in general open from mid-May to end September. The Aqua Show Park is near Quarteira and Vilamoura. Aqualand is 6 km from Albufeira and the Slide'nsplash is not far from Portimão.
